London, Bill

Biography

During his many years in broadcasting, Bill worked as an announcer at eight different radio and TV stations. He enjoyed the wide range of experiences this afforded.

Bill’s career, which began in 1950 at CHAB Moose Jaw, also took him to CKRD Red Deer, CFQC Saskatoon, CKDA Victoria, CFRN Radio and Television Edmonton, CHQR Calgary, and to CBC Radio and Television in Edmonton.

Bill claims the highlight of his career was joining CBC as announcer in 1965 at double the pay he had received elsewhere. Reason enough to stay there for twenty-five years!

Of the many stations where his career took him, Bill’s best memory is of CFQC Saskatoon, where he met his wife-to-be who was auditioning as a vocalist for a ‘QC radio show. Says Bill “She didn’t get the job, but she got me!” Bill retired from broadcasting in 1991 and passed away on June 27, 2009.
