George was born January 6, 1917, in his Grandpa Saur’s sod roofed house on the family homestead. He attended the local school for some years until the onset of osteomylitis.
George was forever greatful to the Shriners who helped his family finance his hospital trips and stays. He felt he owed his life to them for getting him back on his feet.
He came to Edmonton in 1943 and began his 38 – year career in broadcasting with CFRN, Sunwapta Broadcasting Company.
George met Marion Dwyer, his future bride and “nurse” in Lloydminster. They were married August 21st, 1944 in Edmonton and were in their 60th year celebration. He and Marion were blessed with two children, Lorne and Madelon and three very special grandchildren: Andrew, Brian, and Jan Rempel, who were very involved with their “Papa”.
George and Marion along with his brother John and wife Vera, marion’s “surrogate sister” shared many a journey together, interests and especially laughter.
