David was with the Royal Airforce Services Personnel when, in 1965, he joined the Aden Forces Broadcasting Association at station AFBA, in Aden (now south Yemen). There he served as news announcer and continuity writer. Two years later he moved to Birmingham, England, as Sales Manager and Announcer at BRMB, which was the first commercial radio station in England, outside of London.
David’s next move brought him to Canada and to CFRN-AM, Edmonton, where he was in Sales, and where he also participated in remote broadcasts. He fondly remembers Search for Talent winter trips to central and northern Alberta towns. The crew would hit the road every Saturday and tape the show on Sunday for broadcast later.
Seeking a career change, David left ‘RN to work for a time with Oxford Developments. However, the siren call of Radio beckoned, and he returned to CKXM-FM, Edmonton, where he acted in many positions, including that of Manager.
Some of David’s best radio memories include interviews with musicians Stan Kenton and Dave Brubeck; Colin Chapman (owner of Lotus cars); and racing champions Nigel Mansell and Gilles Villeneuve. David has left broadcasting to establish his own security business, Lionsafe Security Pro.
