ARNOLD, Bob (Robert William Rud)
March 1, 1938 – September 29, 2011
Bob Arnold passed away in hospital in Bonnyville, at age 73.
Bob is survived by his loving friend Liz Holton, four children Bobbi (Gerry) Parama, Shannon (John) Turgeon, Darcee (Rob) Halter, Barton (Seb) Arnold. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his 14 grandchildren: Jason, Curtis (Jen), Jessica, Steven (Becky), Treva (Jason), Jacqui (Jason), Amy (Scott), Brad (Leah), Janelle (Joe), Tamara, Keith (Amanda), Kent (Robyn), Amanda and Miranda (Cody); 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Arnold and Gina (Albert) Pouteaux; brother-in-law, Marvin Barker, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Annette (Skibinsky); his parents, Jake and Stella; and sisters, Evelyn and Carol.
Bob was born in Shamrock and raised in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan. From his start in the banking industry, he made his way via Saskatchewan and British Columbia, to Alberta, finally settling in the Edmonton area, where he worked as the Morning Man on CJCA Radio from the early 70’s through to the early 90’s.
A private family memorial service has been held in his honour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation.
As Bob would say when he signed off the air,
“I will go now…Hello!”

Long-time Edmonton radio man Bob Arnold has passed away.
Arnold worked as the morning announcer for CJCA Radio from the 1970’s until he retired in the early 1990’s.
Gord Whitehead worked with Arnold until the mid 80’s. He says Bob was a lively personality.
“A very quick witted guy,” Whitehead reminisces. “He always had a joke, one of those people that no matter what the scenario was he’d always come up with some kind of a wisecrack. They used to call him the king of puns and one-liners… and that was indeed true.”
He says Arnold was a member of a dying breed of radio personality.
“Nowadays, it’s a common thought amongst a lot of people that a lot of personality has left radio,” explains Whitehead. “I think Bob was one of those people that did have a personality, a very distinct personality, a very warm, caring individual.”
“He will be missed.”
Arnold died September 29th, in Bonnyville. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. (scb)
