Ernest Carefoot
June 17, 1937 – December 4, 2020

Ernest Carefoot of Nanaimo passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2020, at Nanaimo Regional Hospital.

Predeceased by his parents and younger sister and survived by his wife, Lillian, daughters Jill and Morel and their mother, a sister and a brother, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Ernest had numerous careers, including farming, work in radio and television and teaching Communications at Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon.

From 1974 onward he wrote poetry and plays as EH Carefoot, having a number of them produced in Saskatchewan and Alberta in the 1970’s and 80’s. In 1989 he and Lillian moved to Nanaimo where they lived in a number of houses which they restored and refurbished, with Ernest doing much of the work. Besides writing, he passionately pursued his creativity through acting, directing, and later in life, visual art, talking about all his projects with exuberance. He and Lillian enjoyed collecting early Canadian pine and local art.

Those who knew him will never forget his charisma, his storytelling and his voice.
