Dave Cummins was born February 9th, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio and died at the age of 80 a year ago this month in central Florida. He attended Ohio State University in the mid-1950’s and worked at a number of radio stations in the Buckeye State until he relocated his family to the Tidewater area of Southeast Virginia in the spring of 1962. Dave did mornings at WHIH-1400, licensed to Portsmouth, Virginia for six months. In December 1962, he was hired as the midday man at the market’s top station WGH (which stands for World’s Greatest Harbor) , which is at 1310 and licensed to Newport News-Norfolk. Dave left around Thanksgiving 1967 to join former WGH D.J. Keith James at CHED in Alberta, Canada. If you enlarge the February 1968 survey from CHED-630 you’ll see the Dave of the frozen north.
