David F. Errington

June 11, 1938 – June 11, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce David’s passing. He was predeceased by his father, Inspector F.C. “Bud” Errington, his mother Marguerita, and his brother Jim. He leaves to mourn his daughter Sarah Frank (Mike) of St. Albert, AB, grandchildren Maggie, Gavin, Nigel, and one on the way, as well as his adopted son Jeffrey. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister Judy Ellis of White Rock, nephews Bill, Randy, James, and niece Marie.

Anyone who met Dave was taken by his colourful life, vivid storytelling, and roaring laughter. David was born in Vancouver grew up on Lulu Island. By age 23 he was a boxing champion, brahma bull rider, and world traveller aboard a merchant marine freighter. Following university, he began his broadcasting career as a writer, producer and director for CBC Radio and Television in Vancouver and Toronto. He was a veteran journalist who published a weekly community newspaper in Alberta, worked for Access Alberta TV and the National Film Board, and was the first News Director for CISL Richmond. He loved music, particularly jazz, and was an accomplished trumpet and guitar player. His true love was the sea and his final calling was as a sea captain and fisherman aboard his schooner the Valkyrian II. He spent many years at sea, fishing around Vancouver and Vancouver Island. His final years were spent on land (to his dismay) in the community of Chemainus, with his faithful companion Lucky.
