Gene Kern

Although best remembered for his four decades, 1952-91, at CKWX Vancouver, mainly in Production, Gene Kern began his radio career at CKUA in 1941 as a Track and Field Reporter.

July 31, 1926 – July 30, 2012

Passed away peacefully on July 30, 2012 at the age of 86 years. Pre-deceased by his wife, Kaye, Gene will be lovingly remembered by his children: Lynn, Jeff (Keree), Donna (Peter) & Steve (Marina); his grandchildren, Laura, Allison, Brian, Heather, Ashlie (Nelson), Adrienne, Kelly, Lisa, Kathy, Thomas & Matthew; his great grandson Aiden; his sisters Florence & Terry and his brother Syd. Gene was dedicated to his family and his profession. He was a veteran radio broadcaster/producer, primarily at CKWX, and was well known and respected in the broadcasting industry. Gene had a life-long commitment to mentoring broadcasting students and to volunteering in his community. He was an avid story teller with a magnificent “radio voice”.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB or the Society for the Preservation of Antique Radio in Canada (SPARC).
