Alan N. Martin
1931 – 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful death of Alan N. Martin on February 19, 2017, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Lois Purdy, and son of the late Albert N. Martin and the late Emma Mary Hubbs. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Viola Purdy. He leaves behind his children: Irvin, Vera (Norm) and TImothy (Rena); his 3 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his brother Frederick (Joyce), his sisters-in-law Barbara (late Frank) and Grace Purdy, brother-in-law Raymond Leduc (late Gertrude Purdy), and many close nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.
The celebration of his life will be held at the COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L’OUTAOUAIS, at 1369, La Vérendrye O. Blvd (HWY 50 E, exit 141), in Gatineau, on April 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a reception. The family will receive the condolences at 5:00 p.m.
For those who wish to do so, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society and/or the Canadian Cancer Society .
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Carlingview Manor Nursing Home, 3rd floor, for their devotion and excellent care provided to Alan. During Alan’s stay at the Westwood Retirement Home some very special people touched his life. You know who you are and our family sincerely thanks you.

Biography
Alan was born in 1931 in London, Ontario and grew up in Beeton, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1951 and was married in 1954 to Dorothy Adams. A second marriage to Lois Purdy took place in 1977.
Alan’s CBC career with the Engineering Department spanned the years 1956 to 1987. After spending five years in the RCN in Halifax, Alan joined the Corporation in 1956 as a Maintenance Technician. In 1962 he transferred to Edmonton as a Supervising Technician and moved from there in 1966 to Montreal as Technical Supervisor. In 1967 he became part of the Northern Service Region in Ottawa and went from there in 1977 to spend two years in the Bahamas overseeing a new Television plant installation.
In 1979 he became part of the CBC Engineering Department in Vancouver where he remained until his retirement in 1987.
In 1991 Lois & Alan moved to Abbotsford. Alan was a private pilot and belonged to the CBCears, Ham Radio group.

Alan is survived by three children from his first marriage – Irvin, Vera and Timothy, as well as three grandchildren and one great grandson. His wife Lois who had been on staff with CBC Head Office and the Northern Service Region Accounting Departments in Ottawa and subsequently with the Finance Department in Vancouver, passed away in 2014.
