Robin Taylor, former executive producer of CBC’s The Fifth Estate and head of current affairs programming, has died

Longtime CBC journalist Robinson ā€œRobinā€ Taylor died on June 12, 2013 at age 80 in Basingstoke, England.

Before becoming the executive producer of CBC’sĀ The FifthĀ EstateĀ and later CBC’s head of current affairs programming, Taylor held posts at CBC Winnipeg, CBC Edmonton and CBC St. John’s. It was in Newfoundland that Taylor started ā€œHere and Nowā€ with Bill Donovan and Bob Cole, filling a void left when a news reader moved from NTV to join the Trudeau government.

Earlier in his career, Taylor worked forĀ Newcastle Chronicle,Ā theĀ Winnipeg Free Press, theĀ Winnipeg TribuneĀ and theĀ Vancouver Sun.

Taylor’s family tie to the CBC continues with his daughter Sheila Coles who has hostedĀ Morning EditionĀ on CBC Radio Saskatchewan for more than 20 years.Ā He also leaves his wife, Pat; five children including Coles; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother.
