ZWOZDESKY, Eugene “Gene”
July 24, 1948 – January 6, 2019

Eugene “Gene” Zwozdesky, also known to many as “Zwoz”, “Machine”, “Mr. Speaker”, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019, after a short, but valiant, battle with cancer at the age of 70 years.

Gene wore numerous hats during his lifetime of service, many at the same time, some constantly: student, musician, sportsman, dancer, singer, conductor, teacher, linguist, volunteer, businessman, politician, mentor, Speaker, and organizer extraordinaire.

Predeceased by his father, Alec; Gene is survived by mother, Anna; wife, Christine; daughter, Ariana (Joseph Whitlow); son, Myron (Krystal); three grandchildren, Joshua and Natalie Whitlow, and Charlie Zwozdesky; brothers, John (Marie) and Willi; sister, Iris Ciona (Steve); as well as numerous extended family members and godchildren.

Public Visitation Monday, January 14 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton.
Prayer Service Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 10951 – 107 Street, Edmonton, followed by an informal reception. Bring your own instrument if you’d like to jam!

Funeral Rite Wednesday, January 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, with interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 16102 Fort Road, NW, Edmonton.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Drs. Debenham, Sangha, Follett, and all the nursing staff at the Cross Cancer Clinic. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Edmonton Food Bank, St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Hockey Edmonton (Timbits), or the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada Foundation.
